What are parents saying about Foundation?

"Feels like a family - every child is accepted for who they are."

"The staff are all Christians and God is at the center of the school. The children are loved, respected and disciplined according to God’s word. The classes are smaller, and the children are not just one of many, they are all treated as individuals. Foundation has been a blessing to me and my children, and I am grateful to God for making a way for me to have them there."

"The teachers are great, the classes are small and the kids are getting a great education that includes Christian teaching."

About Foundation Christian School

Foundation Christian School is a dynamic and growing JK-8 school that prides itself in going above and beyond Ministry of Education expectations in an inclusive Christian environment.

We employ a highly qualified, Ministry of Education certified Christian staff who will help your child achieve academic success in our loving, nurturing environment. Our small class sizes ensure that your child gets the attention that they need and the encouragement to excel in their studies.

Our staff also provide a wide range of extracurricular activities, including clubs and sports, and Foundation students participate in school-wide drama and musical productions.

Parents appreciate Foundation's spacious, relaxed country setting, away from the activity of the city and yet only a short drive away. Foundation's family atmosphere and family events help parents to get to know all of the children and their families.

Our mission

Our mission is to provide affordable, high quality Christian education in our community. Please make it your mission to partner with us in supporting Christian education.

Mission statement

Foundation Christian School nurtures and develops academic excellence and Christ-like character in each student by partnering with the family, the church, and the community to further God's ministry.

Statement of Faith

Foundation Christian School is founded upon and is informed by the following beliefs, which all members of staff and administration hold to be true, and upon which they model their service to the school:

There is but one God, eternal, in three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." II Corinthians 13:14

God the Father, the great I Am, eternal creator of heaven and earth and all that exists. "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom." Isaiah 40:28

Our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh through His virgin birth, His sinless human life, His divine miracles, His death and resurrection, His ascension, and His coming again in power and glory. That salvation of lost and sinful men and women comes through the shed blood of Jesus, by faith apart from works. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

The Holy Spirit gifts us, empowers us, equips us and calls us, and by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life of witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ. "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8

There is a unity in the Holy Spirit of all true believers, the Church, the Body of Christ. "I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought." I Corinthians 1:10

That the Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy and the only supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." II Timothy 3:16

That regarding human relationships and sexuality, we hold to the scriptural blessing of one man and one woman within the bonds of marriage, as the only union that is God pleasing. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24

That regarding creation, we hold and teach that we are to honour and preserve His creation, and that all life is from God and is sacred. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1; "Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way." Genesis 1:27

That regarding human life, we hold and teach that human life is God breathed and of all life most sacred, and that human life at all stages from conception to death is to be nurtured, valued and protected. "And the LORD God formed a man's body from the dust of the ground and breathed into it the breath of life. And the man became a living person." Genesis 2:7; "So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27; "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13; "The LORD brings both death and life; he brings some down to the grave but raises others up." I Samuel 2:6

That Christian faith is about a living relationship, not about prescribed ritual nor about religion; it is about simple faith in the saving power of Jesus and not a reliance upon the doctrine of men. "But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." I John 2:5,6

About our name

The Foundation Christian School name was chosen to encapsulate the solid academic and spiritual bases we envision and pursue for each child.

Our academic foundation is based on providing an academically stimulating education in a caring school environment. Small class sizes ensure that all children get the attention they need from our Ministry of Education certified teachers. The academic foundation is strengthened by parental and community involvement.

Our spiritual foundation is formed by an immersive Christian environment which models Christian values in all that we do. Like the wise man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24-25), we believe that our school provides a firm spiritual foundation for children to weather the storms of life in our secular world.

Ok, what's with the rock thing?

You see, the wise man's house had a rock as its foundation. Get it? The rock is our foundation, and so Foundation Christian School is—affectionately—our rock.

We use the rock theme for many things at Foundation, including our website, the Rock Talk eNewsletter, and our headmaster (he's not a fossil, but he was a good find!).

Business entity

Foundation Christian School is officially registered as, and operated by, the non-profit organization known as On A Rock Christian School of Waterloo Region. In our day to day operations, we are simply known as Foundation Christian School.

About our logo and colours

Our logo depicts two people with their arms extended in joy. The people are reaching higher, representing both a higher standard of education, and at the same time, reaching to God above. The two people are also reaching outward to embrace others, and to draw them in, representing an invitation to share God's love. Overall, the two people form the reverse image of a central cross, representing our focus on Christ in everything we do.

The school colours of white, green and blue were chosen for their meanings, namely: white, representing purity and faith in God's word; green, representing nature and growth; and blue, representing stability, truth and the water of baptism.

The Foundation Christian School story

For many years, a number of individuals held the seed of an idea. Their idea was for the formation of a Christian School that focused on top-notch academics in a Christian environment. Although there were other Christian Schools in the area, this one would be the first to be independent of a particular church or denomination, allowing the story of Christ's love to be shared without denominational divisions. After all, we are all God's children.

In the spring of 2006, the conditions were right and some of these individuals felt led to plant the seed. As they shared their ideas with others, more people came to realize that they shared this same, common vision. They envisioned an environment that would be an ideal place for children to not only grow and learn, but also to grow in Christ. Through prayer, this group determined that the time was indeed right to plant the seed for the formation of a new Christian school, and to develop the core ideas and ideals that would shape Foundation Christian School.

As the people tended to the new seedling, it grew in the care it received and others became interested in it. By God's grace, more like-minded people came to join and share in the effort of growing a Christian school. Before long, the idea of an open Christian School ministry had attracted the overwhelming support of many families, teachers, and the community.

They were all amazed by how quickly it grew. Raised up on the collective hands of many, Foundation Christian School came into being during the summer of 2006, and opened its doors to students in September, 2006.
